Firstly before I was able to come up with my final magazine cover I did various drafts and practises until I found the right look...

Draft 1

This was my first draft for my magazine cover. Here I was experimenting with images and colours. I have decided to make an 'autumn edition' of my magazine so want to use autumn colours, like rich oranges, browns and reds that tie in well with my image. I chose not to develop on this cover as I wasn't keen on the font as it seemed to 'childish' and I didn't really like the image and felt that I could use a better image that would be easier to work with. This image seemed pretty bland, had cars in the background, and didn't have much to work with either.

Draft 2

This is my second draft. I have changed the image as I wasn't happy with my last one and have gone for an image with more colours and tones in and has more going on in it so it is more interesting to look at. I also changed the font and the colour of my mast head. I like the font and think this may be the final font that I use but somehow the colour isn't working and doesn't stand out at all so this is will be a feature that  I will change in my development of my cover.

Draft 3

I have developed my cover further and have added text and started to think about where I'm going to put my cover lines. I like the orange as I feel it ties in well with the image and has brought the autumn theme out well. I like the layout with the mast head with 'The Autumn Edition' and "College Life Made Easy' slogan and will most probably keep this as my final mast head layout. I'm not too keen though on the purple circle, as although it doesn't have any text on it yet it seems to stand out too much and not blend in well with the rest of the cover

Contents Draft 1

Here I have started to think about the layout of my contents page. I have carried in the same font and colour scheme in the heading and have used different images that didn't make it onto my cover to show more aspects of college life. I obviously have to develop my contents page further but this is a good template to base the rest of my ideas around.

Contents Draft 2

This is my second draft of my contents page which I have developed from my first attempt at laying out my contents page. I have now added my pages and started to think about what the key pages are and how the final copy of my contents page is going to look like. Areas of improvement for this cover are; removing the orange line from around the title, repositioning the pages; editing the images by adding some kind of frame. By making these improvements it will make the contents page a lot more interesting and will not look so bare. 

Contents Draft 3

This is my third draft of my contents page. I have once again developed my contents page idea and added a small bit of text which introduces the magazine and welcomes the reader. This has added more detail to the page and will hopefully make the contents look more interesting and stop it being so empty and plain. I have moved one of the images from down the side of the page to the top to hopefully evenly spread out all the content across the page. I still need to remove the orange box from around the contents title though and I still feel more detail or rearranging can be done to perfect the contents page; which will hopefully form my final contents page!

Final Copies

Above are my final copies of my front cover and contents page. I have tweaked all the bits which needed changing or didn't quite work with the rest of the design. I do like my final designs and feel that seeing as this was my first attempt at creating something on 'In Design'  I have done my best and think that the final outcome is exactly what I was aiming to achieve, I feel the colours blend well with the whole magazine theme and that I have continued this theme through out my work. In future I may be able to be more creative with my ideas as I will feel more comfortable using the software. I am happy with the final outcome of my work and feel it has everything it needs on it.
